unBrothers / Jam Straight

Friday April 13th, 2018

6pm DOORS / 8pm SHOW

$10 GA / $12 Seated Advance / $15 DOS

unBrothers play the best of Vintage Rock/R&B. As accomplished performers, recording artists & songwriters, they put their unique spin on Vinyl-era classics, B-sides and mash it up with the odd current hit & original songs.

unbrothers is not your ordinary cover band. While it’s accurate that all of our material was written and performed by some the most famous rock acts in history, we have managed to put our own spin on this material by cleverly assembling and weaving songs in big production mash-ups. Finding songs that do not, should not go together, unBrothers invokes alchemy to create something new, something synthetic. This synthesis yields something different and original, bigger that the sum of its parts to the delight of audiences.

The result is a “rock show” where every visual, musical and audio element has been fine tuned and executed with precision, all while maintaining super high energy.

Jam Straight was formed by Jerry Squillante (drums), Neil Nappi (guitar) and Jim Nappi (bass), all hailing from Bergen County, NJ in the summer of 2005. The two brothers and distant cousin performed as a trio for several years appearing at local venues and backyard parties with a groovy combination of original and cover music ranging from the Allman Brothers to Frank Zappa. During this time several old and new friends appeared with the band in different capacities. Elise Carter (flute), Chris Reed (sax) and Bob Trostle (harmonica) are several outstanding local Jammers who appeared with the band during this time. With each special guest the band learned new songs and stretched out in ways they probably wouldn't have otherwise. These musical compadres helped Jam Straight find it's "sound" and continue to sit in with the band to this day when schedules allow.

Around 2008, old friend and guitarist, Mike Marvin, moved back to the area and sat in on a couple of shows. It wasn't long before Jam Straight asked Mike to become a permanent member. Mike's great lead playing and long history with the Nappi brothers (especially Jim with the band Full Tilt) not only brought a dual guitar threat but also freed Neil up to concentrate more on his lead vocalist duties. Over the next few years Jam Straight really came into it's own. Larger venues and music festivals started appearing on the band's calendar. Leslie West even sat in for a couple of tunes at a show in Englewood Cliffs that the band will not soon forget.

Towards the end of 2012, Mike left the band amicably due to other commitments. After several auditions which included keyboardists as well as guitarists, Jam Straight welcomed Neil Labay (guitar) to the fold. With his infectious energy and more modern influences, Neil brought some new song suggestions and ideas to the band. Jam Straight and their new guitarist managed to keep up with their gigging schedule and forge ahead in breaking new musical ground. Today, with an ever growing fan base and bigger and bigger shows on the horizon, the sky is the limit for these Jamsters.
